A neglected road in Stroud Green will be repaired after nearly 100 residents signed a petition urging Haringey Council to take action.

Ben Myring, of Inderwick Road, and councillors galvanised neighbour to demand the road’s potholes, uneven pavements and dilapidated lampposts be fixed.

Opposition Liberal Democrat Councillor Richard Wilson took the chief executive of the authority, Nick Walkley, to the street to show him its condition first-hand.

As a result of public pressure the council has agreed to fix the pavements, resurface the road and improve lighting in the street.

The repairs will be made as part of the scheduled maintenance work due to take place over the next year.

Lib Dem Councillor for Stroud Green Katherine Reece thanked those who signed the petition.

She said: “It is a shame it was necessary to do this petition in the first place.

“The council should be making sure local roads and pavements are well maintained and not allow them to get into the state that Inderwick Road got into.

“When residents are paying one of the highest council taxes in London they expect that basic things like fixing the streets and roads will happen.”

The council recently admitted more than half of the footways in the borough need maintenance work.
